Feng Shui Your Children's Room in One Afternoon

Feng Shui Your Children's Room in One Afternoon

Does it feel impossible to bring order and Feng Shui into our children’s rooms? Let’s talk about how you can make this work.

Every child has their favorite toys, clothes, furniture and colors. Start by working with your child to find out what they love most right now in their room; then remove the other things for a while to create some space. That does not mean you have to throw everything away or sell it; place the items that are currently not needed in a storage closet or basement. Because when a child rediscovers their old toys, the joy is usually greater than when it was new!

The less you have sitting around your child’s room – the easier it’ll be to create some order. The same applies to clothes; too small, too big, or needs mending – sort through them and remove the items that are no longer worn or liked. Doing this will make more space in their closets and drawers, and the daily dressing of your child will be a smoother experience when there are fewer options!

Sleep Child Sleep…

Choosing the place to sleep is one of the most important decisions you need to make when setting up a child’s room. The exception is children who simply go to bed to snuggle and cuddle with mum and dad. If your child tends to sneak into your bed every night, I highly recommend you take a closer look at their sleeping space.

Here are the essential Feng Shui rules for the bed position:

  • There should not be a mirror near the side of the bed.
  • The child should not sleep with their feet in the direction of the door.
  • There should be a solid wall behind the bed, no windows, please.
  • The bed should not be between the door and the window. This arrangement blocks the natural flow of Qi, which can cause restless sleep (strategically placed rock crystals, wind chimes, or decorative and symbolic hanging mobiles can assist here).
  • The Qi should be able to flow freely under the bed; it should accumulate no dust and no waste. The distance of 20 to 30 cm between floor and mattress should be respected, also to protect the child against electromagnetic radiation.
  • The bed should not be against the kitchen or bathroom wall where the water and drain pipes are. The cool yin energy of the water can cause restless sleep.
  • The bed should not be positioned under a beam that runs across it, as this will cut the room’s energy and create too much Qi turbulence, leading to sleep disturbances.

Schoolwork and The Desk

By the time your child starts school, they will need a desk. Most children intuitively feel what is right for them; if they only want to do their homework in the kitchen or elsewhere, check the position of the desk, change it if necessary, and watch what happens.

The child must sit with his back to the wall, with their view facing toward the room and door. If the door is behind their back, they will become restless because they can’t see what’s happening in the rest of the room.

Avoid a working space facing the wall –  this will act as a board in front of them, which is demotivating and dull and will block the flow of Qi. If there is no other way, hang a picturesque poster to create a vision for your child. Beautiful views inspire imagination and motivation!

Choose the Right Colour

There are no general guidelines for color selection. However, there are many factors to consider regarding color choice. Bright pastel shades are very suitable for the design of the child’s room. You can use several colors simultaneously; for example, gentle tones of yellow, apricot, pink, soft green, bright blue, and creamy white are excellent options.

Dark shades such as black, gray or brown are not suitable colors; they are depressing, sad and not conducive to the child’s development. However, if the room becomes too colorful, it can also become a restless space. Even children’s wallpapers decorated with colorful motifs or characters from the fairy-tale world have a slightly negative effect.

Please do not forget to respect your children’s wishes and include them in the color and furnishing selection process. The child should feel comfortable and secure in their own room.

But enough writing, get to the rooms and enjoy the changes!

And most of all, have fun together, implementing Feng Shui into your child’s room and living space!
